Takalani Mulaudzi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Prof. Mulaudzi also serves as the BTech Hons Programme Coordinator in the Department of Biotechnology at UWC. She is the Principal Investigator of the SmartCrop Africa Research Group and a member of the DST–NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security at UWC. She is also a participant in the DHET-funded Future Professors Programme (2025–2026) at the University of Johannesburg.
Prof. Mulaudzi is a co-founder of the Western Cape Plant Science Forum (WCPSF). As a plant scientist, her research focuses on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying plant stress tolerance, with the aim of improving crop productivity under climate change-induced abiotic stresses.
Her work also emphasizes the screening and characterisation of genotypes of underutilized and indigenous crops to promote sustainable agriculture and support the development of climate-resilient staple food crops. Ultimately, this research contributes to alleviating food and nutritional insecurity. She previously served as the Seminar Series Coordinator (2022–2024) and currently serves as Deputy Treasurer.
