Addmore Shonhai is a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Venda, South Africa, where he leads the Protein Biochemistry of Malaria Research Group.
He is a distinguished protein biochemist whose research focuses on heat shock proteins (HSPs) and their crucial roles in malaria parasite survival under physiological stress.
His work has advanced the understanding of stress response mechanisms of infectious agents, identifying pathways that can be exploited for novel antimalarial drug development. Prof. Shonhai is a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa, a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), and a lifetime member of the Cell Stress Society International (CSSI).
He is the recipient of two prestigious international research fellowships: the Georg-Förster Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany) and the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Fellowship (USA). These awards have facilitated his collaborations with leading molecular parasitology groups, including those at Philipps University of Marburg and the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Germany.
